It is 1974. We are taken on an extraordinary journey to the past, to the People’s Republic of Poland, by Michael Russell and Peter Haseldine. At the time, a group of British transport enthusiasts visited Polish cities to get an up-close look at tram systems. They captured the past and the sometimes surprising reality for them on photographic plate. The colour photographs they took at the time are an excellent quality and valuable document of everyday life in the People’s Republic of Poland. Trams are the central figures of this unique photographic reportage, while the background is formed by everything that surrounds them: streets, cars, tram terminals, tenement houses, communist housing estates, shops, busy city dwellers dressed in the fashion typical of the era.
